TomTom offers $2.77 billion for map maker Tele Atlas

Navigation-device maker TomTom NV said yesterday that it plans to buy its supplier of digital road maps, Tele Atlas NV, for €2 billion ($2.77 billion). The move is expected to improve the quality of TomTom's routing systems and increase its footprint in the in-car and wireless navigation market. TomTom will therefore be able to real-time update the data on more than 10 million navigation devices.
