China will accelerate the construction of the autonomous satellite navigation and positioning system, according to the “Several Opinions on Boosting the Satellite Application Industries” (hereafter referred to as The Opinions), which has been issued jointly by the Commission of Science Technology and Industry for National Defense and the National Development and Reform Commission.
The Opinions advance to quicken the scalization development of the satellite navigation industries, speed up the construction of the autonomous satellite navigation and positioning system, improve the basic support ability of satellite navigation application, boost the industrialization of satellite navigation terminal products, and spur the development of operation industries related to satellite navigation.
In terms of the latter two proposals, The Opinions point out that China will promote the scalization and standardization of satellite navigation operation industries and will foster the standardization and industrialization of satellite navigation receiver chips, key components, digital navigation maps, and user terminal products with independent intellectual property.
Comment: As a high-and-new-tech industry, the satellite navigation application industry will surely step into a boosting period in the future. At the upcoming NaviForum Shanghai 2007 next week, Director of China Satellite Navigation Engineering Center Changfeng Yang will describe the updates and civil application prospects of Compass (Bei Dou), a new-generation satellite navigation system. Chong Cao, Director of Compass (Bei Dou) Civil Application Market and Industrialization Expert Commission, will also attend NaviForum this year and chair one session for “F2F with Experts”.
