Over NaviForum Shanghai 2007, Yongxiong Li, Co-Chairman of the Organizing Committee and Director General of the Department of Map Management of State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping, delivers a keynote speech. As indicated in his speech, the Chinese digital navigation map industry has a steady development, with 99 enterprises installing and using navigable maps and 1.5 million sets of navigable products sold in 2007, up 100% year on year. To tackle problems and risks in the digital navigation map market, the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping issues the Notice about Regulations of Digital Navigation Map Management and performs special law enforcement inspection for the digital navigation map market, which has improved the market order.
Comment: The No.7 notice issued by the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping has solved the problems bewildering the Chinese navigation industry for a period. The new regulations will greatly improve the market environment and make it possible to manage domestic and foreign enterprises by law. Foreign enterprises’ business and activities in the Chinese navigation industry will be more rationalized, especially when related to format conversion and compiling of navigable map data and testing of navigation products, according to experts.
