| China Real-Time Traffic Info Standard to Be Clear; TMC/TEPG vs VICS Competition Settled |
| |
At the Traffic Info track on NaviForum Shanghai 2007, experts from the National Intelligent Transport Systems Center of Engineering and Technology (ITSC), Shanghai Traffic Information Center, Research Institute of China Mobile, China Satcom, and Airsage make exciting statements and discussions about real-time traffic information service standards and the development tendency in China. Tongyan Qi, Chief of the State Traffic Information Service Workgroup, sets forth in the panel discussion that, though trial use of the VICS system is underway in Guangzhou and Dalian, it will not be used as the standard for China real-time traffic information; China will formulate its own standard instead.
Comment: The competition between the TMC system and the VICS system draws full attention of occidental and Japanese automakers and Tier1 who have great ambitions for the China market. The once-overwhelming VICS system of Japan eventually may not find its place in the China market.
