| Basic Requirements for Standard Data of Fundamental Geographic Information Carried Out from March 1 |

The national compulsory standard “Basic Requirements for Standard Data of Fundamental Geographic Information”, proposed and with the formulation organized by the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping, has been recently approved and issued by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Quarantine and the Standardization Administration of PRC. The standard shall take effect as of March 1, 2008. The standard is significant for promoting healthy and sustainable development of China’s informationization construction and geographic information resource co-building and sharing, ensuring smooth running of construction and application of various information systems based on geographic information, and protecting benefits of users of fundamental geographic information products. The standard, in terms of mathematics fundamentals, data contents, production process, and data certification, formulates the basic requirements for standard data of fundamental geographic information. It is applicable for the production, certification, and using of standard data of fundamental geographic information.
Comment: The implementation of the standard guarantees the unification and interconnectivity of information system construction based on geographic information. The State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping will accelerate the production of standard data of fundamental geographic information to actively carry out the standard, which will play an important role in ensuring benefits of map producers and in decreasing redundant construction and waste of money.With the intensifying competition on prices of navigation hardware, the core competence of hardware suppliers is reflected through the product & service differentiation, which will also improve the value innovation of navigation.
