Cn-Map Wins IP Rights Suit against Careland

On Feb 28, 2008, Beijing Haidian District People’s Court ruled in favor of digital map provider Beijing Changdi Mapping Technologies Co., Ltd. (Changdi) in the intellectual property infringement case, which is called “the first case concerning China’s digital navigation map”, lasting more than a year. In a suit a year ago, the plaintiff Changdi, a subsidiary of Ritu Information Systems Inc (Ritu), accused that “Nationwide Navigation Software (335 cities)” published by Shenzhen Careland Information System Co., Ltd (Careland) infringed the property rights of its digital map “Cn-map”. The court ruled that the defendants Careland and Beijing Zhongwei Hengye Trading Center must stop publishing, selling, and using the IP infringed product, publicly issue an apology statement on the China Surveying and Mapping News, compensate the plaintiff for his economic loss, and bear the reasonable expense incurred by the plaintiff.
