China Mobile Launching 3G Tests to Intensify TD Market Competition
 
China Mobile said third-generation mobile phone services based on China's homegrown TD-SCDMA standard will enter commercial trials in eight cities starting April 1. The eight cities include Beijing, Tianjin, Shenyang, Qinhuangdao, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Xiamen, where Olympic matches will be held in this summer. People can subscribe to the TD-SCDMA services with a mobile number starting with 157 through a “Pioneer Card” specially provided for TD-SCDMA services. System equipment and network system equipment providers including ZTE, Huawei, Datang Mobile, and China Potevio as well as optical fiber and cable manufacturers will be the first ones to benefit from the future 3G license issuance, according to experts, related solution providers and mobile phone manufacturers will face greatest changes.
