| |
MapQuest and Garmin yesterday announced plans for the upcoming launch of a new feature that will allow consumers to send trip planning results from MapQuest.com directly to their Garmin personal navigation devices. The Send-to-Garmin feature will be available in April. This new feature works in connecting selected Garmin's PNDs to a computer via a USB cable. Both destinations and a complete route can be sent to Garmin devices.
Comment: Connected navigation has been generally considered the future trend of the navigation industry. An integrated terminal will be certain to emerge in the future. The terminal will integrate functions of mobile phones, PNDs, in-car navigation devices, PDAs, and PCs totally or partially, provide various services like communication, navigation, information, and entertainment, and fulfill information interconnectivity. The cooperation between MapQuest and Garmin also indicates a step further to connected navigation. With connection between PNDs and computers, users can get travel information in anytime and anywhere to enjoy services.
