| ASUS Launches New Navigation Devices; Partners with Dongfeng-Nissan |
| |
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. launched yesterday in Beijing its new navigation devices ― R700 and R300. The new devices feature navigation, FM, Bluetooth, and multimedia functions. ASUS also announced to partner with Dongfeng-Nissan to open up more consumption markets for its navigation devices. Dongfeng-Nissan will rely on ASUS’ popularity in the young and fashionable group to promote the brand idea “Happy Slow Life” for TIIDA models. Before this, ASUS already had good cooperation with famous auto brands Lamborghini and Mercedes-Benz.
Comment: The cooperation between ASUS and Dongfeng-Nissan is easily likened to the cooperation between HP and Shanghai Volkswagen in the first half of 2005 to co-develop GPS navigation solutions. Though great echoes were aroused by media reports then, that cooperation was limited to the co-marketing level. If PND manufacturers and automakers partner just to change HMI of terminals and add OEM related POIs to map database, the cooperation is too shallow. What we expect is deeper cooperation between them, to further explore navigation solutions and step toward connected navigation. The three global principal PND providers TomTom, Garmin, and Mio have been persisting with efforts and also rewarded much.
