| Navigon Promotes New GPS Units |
| |
GPS newcomer Navigon has launched its Navigon 2100 and Navigon 2120 Max GPS models in the United States and Canada (respectively), offering a 4.3-inch antiglare screen, text-to-speech spoken directions, route planning, and a "reality view” that provides 3D, photo-realistic views of complex exchanges and intersections. And, if you get stuck or lost, a DirectHelp feature immediately pulls up directions and phone numbers for nearby emergency services. Navigon also offers a $79.99 FreshMaps service with 12 quarterly map updates over three years, a lifetime subscription to a real-time traffic service for $99.99, and a $39.99 option to tap into Zagat ratings for U.S. hotels, restaurants, and other attractions.
Comment: According to TomTom’s Q1 performance report, its retained profits declined to 7,3 million euros, 83% down year on year. Nowadays, less and less profit can be obtained through PND alone. Navigon promotes value added services to terminal users and thus gets more new profits, which presents a perfect change in profit model.
