| Honda Partners with Japanese Police for Location-Based Crime Info in Nav System |
| |
Honda Motor Co. has teamed up with Japanese police to launch a new service for its Internavi navigation system that displays vehicle-related statistics for the destination zone of the travel. The service shows information on crimes such as car thefts and break-ins, and flags high-risk areas near the driver's destination, throwing in audio and visual cues as the car approaches them. The service is available to members of Honda's “Internavi Premium club”. Internavi Premium Club has now more than 660,000 subscribers.
Comment: Different from the North American market, telematics services in Japan used to focus more on navigation and infotainment services. With the market development, more and more Japanese companies start to realize the importance of security services. Toyota G-Book and Nissan CarWings have already promoted security & safety services. The new service of Internavi Premium Club seems more innovative because it combines location-based information and security & safety information.
