Baidu, Nokia Join Hands in Providing Mobile Search Service

Baidu, the largest Chinese language search engine in the world, has been invited to join a mobile search tie-up with Nokia to develop a WidSets service. Baidu will provide mobile search service for over 10 million WidSets subscribers of Nokia in the world, which signals the official start-up of their collaboration on mobile search. The global targeted WidSets is an important project of Nokia in its strategy of mobile Internet service transition. After logging on to the WidSets platform, Nokia users can enjoy various web services, like news reading, blog browsing, and picture processing.

Comment: Without doubt, content and service will be the most important profit growth points for Nokia, which controls hundreds of millions of terminals. Nokia is growing from a hardware provider more likely to a service and content provider integrating many premium applications like Baidu mobile search. Nokia’s high-profile transition announcement last year makes it obvious that Nokia has considered mobile terminal user oriented content and service as the next gold mine. On the other hand, Baidu also longs to seize the bigger cake of mobile terminal users than Internet users. It’s believed the cooperation with Nokia is just what Baidu hopes for.
