TomTom, BASE to Launch HD Traffic in Belgium

TomTom and wireless operator BASE have sealed an agreement today to bring TomTom HD Traffic to Belgium customers. TomTom expects to launch this service in mid 2009. The cellular data from BASE's network is combined with existing Belgian traffic information sources as well as connected TomTom devices to deliver this service. TomTom expects to provide 5.5 million car drivers in Belgium with the best and most reliable navigation solution available. TomTom HD Traffic is already live in the Netherlands.

Comment: Like TomTom, more and more hardware providers hope to improve brand values and profit points via service supply. The preferred service is traffic information that users are most interested in. Reliable data source and stable transmission channel are key factors to ensure the quality of traffic service. TomTom selects mobile phone as the data source and GPRS as the transmission channel to provide dynamic route navigation. Whether the innovative concept can bring high-quality user experience and handle high cost of wireless communication is worthy of our expectation.
