GyPSii Social Networking Goes Mobile in China on Ramar Phones

GeoSolutions BV Business Unit (GyPSii) today announced an agreement with Chinese mobile handset company Ramar International Co. Ltd. Launching into one of the world's fastest growing mobile marketplaces, Ramar will embed the GyPSii® location and social networking application on the forthcoming range of "amsam" Windows Mobile devices (Amsam is a subsidiary of Ramar), delivering a new range of location-based features and services to consumers. GyPSii will be the first to add the lifestyle element bringing together social networking, user-generated content, friend finding and mapping (UGC) in a single user interface. The agreement has provisions for revenue sharing between GyPSii and Ramar based on current business models for mobile social networking including advertising, in addition to license revenues from Ramar for pre-bundling of GyPSii on the devices.

Comment: Mobile location-based services integrate mobile Internet services and positioning services. China boasts 600 million mobile phone users and 250 million Internet users, which along with the booming navigation market have aroused big fancies of consumers. GyPSii’s move precisely reflects its desire to occupy a favorable position in Chinese mobile LBS market. The most effective social networking is based on mobile phones and the mobile phone based friend-finding market in China is boosting with 18.5 million users in 2007. GyPSii just seized the opportunity to launch mobile phone based networking service as its first service in China.
