An article in Digitime today revealed market shares of leading PND vendors in the United States in the second quarter of 2008 - from market research firm NPD Group. The overall average selling price of PND products stood at US $236 in North America in the second quarter, down 33% from a year earlier. This new set of data confirms Garmin has managed to maintain a strong market share in the United States. Garmin has also widened its gap against rival TomTom to 37 percentage points in the North American market in the second quarter of this year, compared to 23% points in the previous quarter and nine percentage points in the last quarter of 2007. Garmin is well positioned to take a real lead in the worldwide PND market against its rival TomTom.
