Sogou Provides Satellite Maps, Seven Olympic Cities Covered

Sohu today officially released on its Sogou Map the “satellite map”, China’s first satellite imagery product with the latest data enabled. Sogou Map’s satellite maps are first available for 21 cities, including all the seven Olympic cities. Users can enter the service page by clicking “Map” on the homepage of Sogou (www.sogou.com) or directly through the website http://map.sogou.com. The highest map resolution can reach 0.5 m/pixel, so users can clearly see the ground buildings, vehicles, trees and even road markings.

Comment: The remote sensing image map service in China is expanding to the consumer market. It is presently realized on PCs via Internet, but in the future it will be gradually applied to in-vehicle terminals and PNDs and become a component of Telematics service. Some TSPs outside China have already had the ability to provide similar services. Through the in-car terminal, car users can search the satellite imageries or remote sensing images of nearby places, to have better driving and service experience by knowing the nearby topography and geomorphology such as rivers, mountains and buildings from an intuitive perspective. CCTV News said the Beijing 2008 Olympics of world attention also adopts remote sensing image and 3D navigation technologies, which are fulfilled by AutoNavi, the unique digital map provider in China with the Class A aerial photography.
